Pickerel Frog
Pickerel Frogs (Lithobates palustris) are the only native toxic frog species found in different regions of the United States. The Pickerel Frogs secrete a toxic substance from their skin which is poisonous enough to kill much larger animals. Look for the yellow flash pattern found on the inner surface of the hind legs and rectangular spots down the back to distinguish the Pickerel frog from the Northern Leopard frog.
