A supermoon is a new or full moon which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit. A supermoon is supposed to be 14% bigger and 30% brighter than a regular full moon. The face of the Moon is marked by dark volcanic maria that fill between the bright ancient crustal highlands and the impact craters
