After hiking up the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to join the Appalachian Trail to the summit of Mount Washington, we were thankful to catch the Cog Railway back to the trailhead!
Mount Washington Cog Railway's ascends Mount Washington. At 6,288 feet, it is the highest peak in the Northeast. The spectacular panoramic view spans the mountains and valleys of New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont, north into Canada, and east to the Atlantic Ocean. Mount Washington, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, is the highest peak in the Presidential Range. The Presidential Range is a 19 mile range which includes 13 mountain peaks, 9 of which are considered 4,000 footers. The tallest mountain in the range is Mount Washington, named after the first president. The second tallest mountain is Mount Adams, and is named after the second president, and so on.
